HET RIJKSADMINISTRATIEF CENTRUM

NL

At the beginning of 2005, the State Administrative Building (erected in the heart of Brussels in the wake of World Expo 58), this symbol of the welfare state and the central state, was deserted by its last residents, having been at first shared by Flemish and Franophone, then recently sold to private companies. The CAE was conceived almost as a town, which could house up to 10.000 ‘inhabitants’. But how did people live and work in this utopia, in these architectural forms? Executives, civil servants, workmen, kitchen helps and gardeners testify…

– Philippe Simon, Cinergie
